Two major rivers, the Daraundi and the Buri Gandaki meander their way
from north to south through this terrain. To the north east of the Buri
Gandaki lies Ganesh Himal, with Paldor close by. From the vantage point
of Tiru Danda ridge a breathtaking panorama unfolds: 200 km of Himalayan
ranges from Langtang to the Annapurnas, with the three Ganesh Himal
peaks right in front. The route passes through Gurung and Tamang
villages interspersed with rhododendron forests, which are a blaze of
crimson in springtime. Starting point can be either Gorkha or Trisuli
Bazaar. Transport to and from start of trek by tourist bus.

HEA/32 HELAMBU VALLEY TREK

Recently set aside as a Himalayan National Park and still relatively
undisturbed, the area supports a healthy population of wildlife, and there
are good chances of seeing species of wild goat and deer. Birdlife and flora
are equally impressive, all set against the backdrop of the magnificent
Himalaya. There are excellent views of the peaks of the Jugal Himal and
Gaurisankar toward the east.

The upper reaches of Langtang Valley are inhabited by many Tibetans, among
them Kampa refugees. Further down the valley live Tamangs and Sherpas
related to those from the Everest region. There are many picturesque, well
maintained gompas. Transport to and from start of trek by tourist bus.

HEA/30 LANGTANG/HELAMBU/GOSAINKUND LAKES TREK
15 Days Grade 3 (Moderate)

Best times: Late March - May and September - November


The route leads through the forests of Helambu National Park which supports
a variety of wildlife such as barking deer, mountain goat and many bird
species, then continues over hillsides covered in low growing rhododendrons
and azaleas into high alpine country.

After crossing the Laurebina Pass at 4610 m a short descent leads to the
sacred Gosainkund Lakes (4335 m), sapphire blue against the backdrop of
snowy peaks. The shrines around the shoreline are visited by pilgrims who
come here to bathe in the icy waters.

After an exploration day at the lakes the route continues to Kyanjin Gompa
and Langshisha Kharka (4245 m), outstanding vantage points for viewing the
Langtang and Ganesh peaks as well as magnificent Shisha Pangma on the other
side of the border in Tibet. Transport to and from start of trek by tourist bus.

HEA/31 LANGTANG VALLEY TREK 17 Days Grade 3 Moderate
LATE MARCH - MAY & SEPT. - NOV. * Camping & Lodge Accommodation *


After the spectacular drive to Dhunche, the trail leads to Syabrubensi, a
village of Tamangs and Tibetans. Along winding mountain paths lined with
mani walls, and crossing numerous bridges, you arrive at the foot of a high
ridge. While ascending, Mount Paldor comes into view, and soon the
timberline is left behind. Then a vista of more great peaks unfolds:
Ganesh Himal I (7429m), Peak V (6986m) and Peak VII appear. After this
excursion you head back to Syabrubensi and then towards Langtang village,
enjoying good views of Langtang Lirung (7245 m) and the Gosainkund scenery.
