EXPEDITION TO MOUNT KAILAS VIA ZHANGMU- APRIL TO SEPTEMBER
The journey to Mount Kailas in western Tibet is an unforgettable
experience.The route across the unique
landscape of the Tibetan plateau allows views of the snowy Himalayas
to the south before reaching starkly
beautiful Mount Kailas and sacred Lake Manasarowar nearby.
Not only the landscape is unique, but also the devotion of Tibetan
pilgrims who journey many miles in order
to see Mount Kailas and walk around its base.
Himalayan Envpro Adventures have thoroughly explored the most
practical way for travel groups to share
this experience.
Our expert team will be with you right from the start in Kathmandu
to the border with Tibetan China, where
they will organise the formalities of crossing.
They will then look after you during a journey which alternates
four wheel drive transport with trekking and
leads over windswept passes and through immense valleys to the
destination - Mount Kailas. With their
support, you can make the three day circle or "kora" of the mountain,
surely your most unforgettable experience.
Good health and a reasonable degree of fitness (achieved by some
prior training) are necessary for this tour
which leads into regions of high altitudes and culminates in a
demanding three day trek reaching 5630 m at
Drolma La pass near Mount Kailas.
We have put great importance on gradual acclimatisation during
this tour. Staying overnight in Zhangmu and
then making the short drive to Nyalam, where the rest of the day
is spent, followed by relatively short daily
drives, gives most persons the opportunity to adjust to the altitude.
Bottled oxygen and Gamow Bags are carried during our tours to
Mount Kailas for use in emergencies.
Your arrival in Kathmandu needs to be timed at least two days
ahead of departure to allow for processing
of Chinese visas for visiting Tibet.
